Vision

Second Stage Playwriting is currently the only group on Michigan State Campus that gives student playwrights the opportunity to workshop and perform their scripts in front of an audience. A Way Out/Serendipity in the Infernal Labyrinth and Ghostwriter were produced as part of their 1st Annual Student Expose.

A Way Out follows hitmen Charlie and Wystan as they tour the Federal Governments’ secret subterranean labyrinth, preparing to make a hit, and quickly watching their entire mission fall apart around them. Slowly but certainly, tensions rise, mistakes are made, and truths come out. Only time will tell if Charlie and Wystan can stand the heat and find A Way Out.

Ghostwriter tells the story of an aspiring playwright, Stephen Conley, that finds himself inspired by an old ghost light which tells him fantastical ideas and forms grand aspirations. Only, is it inspiring Stephen or controlling him? And what’s this about a playwright dying in this very theatre?

Performed in tandem with Crashing by Sophia Catella, The Pomegranate by Brooke Cousins, and Ego by Jack Williams, these stories work together to tell tales of manipulation and deceit, love and loss, and finding oneself through tragedy – whether that be before the storm or after the flood.
