Vision

I originally came onto this project when a friend asked if if I’d be willing to record my entire life for two weeks whilst they made significant modifications to my life in the name of self betterment. I immediately answered ‘No, I would not be willing to do that, but I’d be more than happy to write a satirical script about precisely why forcing someone through a significant life change is a terribly bad idea.’ They answered ‘sure.’

In that simple idea birthed Brad: A Journey, a farcical mockumentary following Brad, the most interesting least interesting person in the world, as a film crew attempts to completely and utterly upend his life and sense of self.

Although not originally consciously the intention, there is a certain amount of critique within Brad: A Journey of the way in which society fails to meet the needs of the neurodiverse and (although anyone prescribing any specific mental diagnosis on Brad is grossly misguided) instead attempts to force them into the bounds and confines of said society. In this regard, perhaps the moral is simply ‘don’t do exactly that’ or ‘let people live.’

The pinecones are simply pinecones. No deep metaphor here.
